Online Programs in IIRS

The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) under the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) conducts free online programs on topics related to space technology. These have been designed to create awareness among the youth about Remote Sensing, Geographical Information systems, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems.

Candidates can register for a maximum of three programs. There are 10,000 thousand seats in the comprehensive program and 5000 thousand seats in the module programs. 25 seats are reserved for students in each program.

Basics of Remote Sensing, GIS, GNNS

It is a comprehensive course. It consists of five modules program. This program will be conducted from August 22 to November 25. Online sessions from 4 pm to 5 pm and interactive sessions from 5 pm to 5.30 pm every day.

Module Programs

Remote Sensing and Digital Image Analysis: This program will be conducted from August 22 to September 16. It includes Basic Principles of Remote Sensing, Earth Observation Sensors and Platforms, Spectral Signature of Different Land Cover Features, Image Interpretation, Thermal, Microwave Remote Sensing, Digital Image Processing, Basic Concepts of Rectification and Registration, Enhancement, Classification and Accuracy Assessment Techniques, etc. There will be sessions on topics.

Global Navigation Satellite System: This program will be held from September 19 to 30. It includes sessions on the introduction of GPS and GNSS, receivers, processing methods, errors, and accuracy.

Geographical Information System: This program will be held from October 3rd to 28th and will include sessions on GIS, Data Bases, Topology, Special Analysis, and Open Source Software.

Basics of Geocomputation and GeoWeb Services: This program will be conducted from October 31 to November 4. It will include sessions on Geocomputation and GeoWeb Services.

RS and GIS Applications: This program will be conducted from November 14 to 25. It includes sessions on Agriculture and Soil, Forestry and Ecology, Geoscience and Geohazards, Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Urban and Regional Studies, and Water Resources.

IIRS Programs Qualification

Students studying for a degree and PG can apply. Lecturers, teachers, and research staff working in colleges and other educational institutions are also eligible. Scientists and other technical staff working in central and state government institutions can also register.

Important information

The online sessions will include lecture slides, video recorded lectures, and demonstrations related to the program study material. These will be uploaded on the IIRS Learning Management System (e-Class) website. Website link: https://eclass.iirs.gov.in/login. Candidates can register either through the institution where they are studying/working or individually. E-certificate will be given to those who complete the program with 70 percent attendance and 40 percent marks as per the rules of the institution.
