Everything on this earth has a name. Those names are decided by scientists or those who identify them. Seas, mountains, plains, in this way the names are determined for the things on earth, in the universe, etc. Let’s know about some of them. Simply put, let’s learn about Vocabulary of Geography.
What is Leap Year
It takes 365 1/4 days for the Earth to return around the Sun, which means one day for every four years. A.D. A leap year is a year in which there is no remainder when the years are divided by 4.
International Day Line:180 degrees east and west longitude is called International Day Line. This line was decided in the year 1884 at the geographical conference held in Washington. This line passes most of the way across the Pacific Ocean.
Equator Zone: It extends from 5 degrees to 10 degrees latitude. This zone is called Equatorial Rainfall Zone based on rainfall and Selval based on Udbizzas.
Temperate Trina Zone: A zone spread from 35 to 55 degrees latitude. Low rainfall and the growth of sparse grass are the specialties of this zone.
Mountains: An elevated area with steep slopes and low peak area. If it is higher than about 900 meters then it can be considered as a mountain.
Information about Islands
An area surrounded by water on all sides is called an island. Eg: Sri Lanka, British.
Peninsula: Wide land areas that penetrate the sea are called peninsulas. They have water on three sides and land on one side. Eg: India, Arabia.
Details of the Monsoon zone
The area spread between 10 degrees to 30 degrees latitude is called Monsoon or Monsoon zone. Winds come according to the seasons. Hence the name monsoon zone. This zone is located in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar, Thailand, and Bangladesh.
Pacific Ocean: The largest of the oceans, its area is 165,760,000 square kilometers. The Equator is 16000 kilometers long.
Eskimos: Live in Canada. Their main occupation is hunting. The houses they live in are called Igloos.
Verkhoyansk: This region is located in Siberia. It is the lowest temperature region. A temperature of -67.8 degrees centigrade was recorded.
Steppes: Temperate grasslands spread across Eurasia.
Pampas: An Argentine bird in South America, widespread in the southern regions of the temperate zone.
Floodplains: Temperate tributaries spread across Africa’s Transvaal and the Orange Free States.
Downs: Temperate grasslands spread across the Murray Darling catchment in Australia.
Wrinkled Mountains: Mountains that have been folded and pushed up due to lateral and vertical forces formed on sediments deposited on the ocean floor. Eg: Rakhi mountains. Himalayan mountains.
Plains: Plains are plains that are about 150 meters above sea level. The plains are slightly elevated and less sloping. Eg: Ganga Indus Plain.
Delta: Plains formed where a river meets the sea. They are triangular. They are named deltas because they resemble the Greek letter delta.
Asteroids or Planetoids
Asteroids or asteroids are asteroids or asteroids that orbit between the orbits of the Sun, Mars, and Jupiter.

Kharif Crops: Crops grown in the rainy season are called Kharif crops. If these Kharif crops are sown in the months of June-July, they will be harvested in the months of September-October. Kharif crops-Rice, Maize.
Rabi Crops: Crops grown in winter are called Rabi crops. If Rabi crops are sown in October, the crop will reach the fort in March and April. Rabi Crops- Uvala, Mustard.
