Geo-Scientist Exam Pattern-2022
UPSC has released notification for the recruitment of 285 Geo Scientist Posts. Those who are selected for these jobs will have an attractive salary in the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines, Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources, and other departments with Group-A status. PG qualification in Geology, Physics, and Chemistry related courses can compete for these jobs. Candidates are selected based on merit shown in three phases. Geo-Scientist Exam Pattern-2022
Vacancies of posts: 1. There are 216 Geologists, 21 Geophysicists, and 19 Chemist posts in the Geological Survey of India. Category 2 Central Ground Water Board has 26 Hydrogeologists, 1 Chemical, and 2 Geophysics vacancies.

Selection process
Recruitment for these posts will be done based on stage-1, stage-2 mains, and stage-3 interview stages. In PG-level education, those with a good grasp of the relevant subject will succeed in the exam.
Stage-1
Preliminary (Stage-1) questions are all objective mode, the answers have to be marked on the OMR sheet. The question paper will be in English language and the questions will be of a total of 400 marks. It consists of two papers. Out of these 100 marks for Paper-1 General Studies. This paper will be conducted jointly for all the candidates.
Paper-2 varies depending on the post applied for. The geology/Hydrogeology department asks questions for Geologist, and Hydrogeologist posts. For Geophysicist and Geophysics posts, these are asked from Geophysics. For chemists and chemical posts, questions will come from chemistry. Paper-2 will be conducted for 300 marks in respective subjects. Paper-1, Paper-2 each question paper duration is 2 hours.
There are negative marks. A third of the marks allocated for that question will be deducted for wrong answers. Six or seven times the number of candidates will be selected for the main examination from the list of those who have secured the qualifying marks in both the preliminary papers according to their merit and reservations.
Stage-2
This question paper will be in description mode. Questions will be in the English language. Answers should also be written in the English language. In the main, the candidate will apply for 3 papers from the department. Stage 2 will be conducted for 600 marks at the rate of 200 per paper. The duration of each paper is three hours. Those who qualify in Stage-2 will be selected for Stage-3 (Interview). A double number of candidates will be selected for Stage 3 for the total number of vacancies available in respective departments.
Stage-3
200 marks are fixed for the interview. There is no requirement for minimum qualifying marks. Candidates will be set for the respective posts or will be observed and assessed for leadership qualities as well as other abilities and allotted marks. Candidates will make final appointments based on merit and reservations based on total marks obtained in all stages.
Eligibility
Those who have studied Geology/Applied Geology/Engineering Geology/Marine Geology/Earth Science/Oceanography/Geochemist etc. courses in PG are eligible for Geologist posts.
Candidates who have studied M.Sc Chemistry/Applied Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry can apply for Chemist and Chemical posts.
who have studied Geology/Applied Geology/Marine Geology/Hydrogeology in PG can apply for Hydrogeology posts.
who have studied M.Sc Applied Physics/Geophysics/Applied Geophysics/Marine Geophysics courses are eligible for Geophysics, and Geophysicist posts.
Age: Not exceeding 32 years as on January 1, 2023. Must have been born between January 2, and 1991-January 1, 2002. Maximum age relaxation is 5 years for SC and ST and 3 years for OBC.
Online Applications: Accepted till 11th October at 6 pm.
Fee: Women, SC, ST, and the Disabled need not pay a fee. Others have to pay 200 rupees.
