The Government of India established the Indian Maritime University in Chennai in 2008 to provide training in shipping. Campuses have been set up in Mumbai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, and Kochi. These have 17 affiliated colleges across the country. These institutes offer various UG and PG courses related to Maritime.

Candidates will be admitted through the talents shown in the online exam. Those who complete the courses will get jobs like Captain, Engineer, Shipbuilder, Designer, Fort Manager, Logistics Expert, etc. The details are as follows in the wake of the recent IMU set announcement.

Undergraduate shipping courses

 

BTech: Marine Engineering, National Architecture, and Ocean Engineering
BBA: Logistics Retailing and e-Commerce
BSc: Nautical Science, Shipbuilding and Repair
Diploma: Nautical Science

Eligibility: BSc, BTech, and Diploma courses are eligible for MPC Group to pass with 60% marks in Inter and at least 50% marks in Class X or Inter English subject. Intergroup students with 60% marks are eligible for the BBA course.

What is the examination procedure for undergraduates?

The question paper for UG courses is for 200 marks. 10 + 2 level questions in English, General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, Maths subjects. MBA courses have 120 questions. Questions are asked on Contextual Ability, Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability, and Logical Reasoning.

PG courses

MTech: Marine Engineering and Management, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Dredging and Harbor Engineering
MBA: Port and Shipping Management, International Transportation and Logistics Management

What are the qualifications for PG courses?

B.Tech passes with 60% marks in relevant or affiliated branches for M.Tech courses.
MBA Any bachelor’s degree pass with 50% marks for MBA courses.
PG Diploma: Marine Engineering
Eligibility: BE / BTech in Mechanical Engineering / Naval Architecture with 50% marks.

Test procedure

The question paper for M.Tech courses is for 120 marks. Candidates should have written answers from any of the following sections: Mechanical / Naval Architecture / Marine / Civil along with Logical Reasoning and Maths. All the questions for all the exams are in Multiple Choice mode.

There are negative marks. Wrong answers will be deducted at the rate of the one-quarter mark. BSc Shipbuilding and Repair, BBA Logistics, Retailing, and e-Commerce courses are taken directly with the merit of inter-marks without the need for examination.

Apart from these, Maritime University also offers Ph.D., MS Research, and integrated Ph.D. courses. To gain admission in these, the examination is conducted in two sections with a duration of 3 hours. It consists of 120 Multiple Choice Questions in Part-1. This test should be completed within two hours.

Part-2 consists of an essay with a duration of one hour. Special notice will be issued for admission to these courses.
