What is Nuclear Energy
Nuclear Energy stands for Nuclear Fission and Nuclear Fusion. We will. This is also known as atomic energy.
What is Nuclear Fission
Nuclear fission is simply the separation of an atom. Usually an atom has protons and neutrons together. This is called a nucleus. Electrons revolve around the nucleus. The nuclear energy in each atom is the protons and neutrons in it keeps the same. That is, the Atom is stable.
But due to the reactions that take place in nature the proton or neutron is removed or added. Then the energy in that Atom that Atom is unstable as it is not balanced. If a Neutron is added to or unstable to an unstable Atom it splits into two more Atoms.
Elements most useful for nuclear fission
Then some neutrons are released for free and some energy is released. Release when an Atom breaks down like this this energy is called nuclear fission. What we now know are the four most useful elements for nuclear fission. They are 1). uranium 2) .Plutonium 3) .Sijiam 4) .Caliporniam.
Of these, uranium and plutonium are the most commonly used. These are more radioactive elements. 92 Protons in uranium, 146
Neutrons are. That’s 92 protons, 146 neutrons combined to make 238.Therefore the atomic weight of uranium is 238.uranium Nucleus Energy 238 Protons with atomic weight, Neutrons are balanced.
But uranium has a more radioactive isotope. The isotope is thought to be its daughter Atom. The same uranium 235.uranium 235 contains 92 protons and 143 neutrons. But uranium 238 contains 92 protons and 146 neutrons. That is uranium 235 has 3 fewer neutrons compared to uranium 238.
So uranium 235 is unstable. This unstable Atom is always ready to split in two. Whenever oneIf Neutron is added to uranium 235 then unstable uranium 235 Atom krypton and Barium are two more small Atoms will break.
When it breaks down there is a lot of energy released. This is Nuclear Fission Energy. However uranium 235 as two Atoms upon separation these three Neutrons are released for free. They do not add to krypton and barium. Barium and krypton do not add these three neutrons to keep them stable.
Now these three free moving neutrons will be added to the other three uranium 235 Atoms that are already there. Again those three uranium 235 Atoms explode. Each of those atoms releases another barium, three neutrons along with the crypton atoms. This is the process All uranium 235 Atoms explode, becoming like a chain system.
Thus tremendous nuclear fission energy is formed. Only uranium 235 is used for nuclear fission. As well as Plutonium 244 is a stable Atom. But the isotope Plutonium 239 is atom unstable. I.e. Plutonium 239 used for nuclear fission.
What is Nuclear Fusion
Nuclear Fusion is simply the combination of two lighter atoms into one heavy atom. But we can only do so through hydrogen isotopes according to our capacity.Because the lightest atom in nature is hydrogen.
Normally a proton in a hydrogen atom has only one electron and no neutron. But hydrogen has two other isotopes. They are Deuterium and Tritium.Deuterium is called Hydrogen 2. It consists of a Proton as well as a Neutron. Tritium Is called hydrogen 3.
It consists of one proton and 2 neutrons. Usually two atoms are fused together. Because the nucleus in the atoms is positive are with charge. So a nucleus with two positive charges will always repel but not attract. Two Atoms Fuse Here Heavy it takes a very high temperature to become an Atom, which means that a hydrogen atoms need a temperature of 10 million Kelvin to fuse.
If you want to fuse heavy atoms instead of hydrogen, you need a higher temperature. The temperature of 100 crore Kelvin is enough to fuse carbon alone is required. Deuterium with one Proton, one Neutron and Tritium with one Proton, two Neutrons when kept at room temperature they fuse and release tremendous energy and are converted into a helium atom.
The energy released by the fusion of two atoms is called nuclear fusion energy. Nuclear Fusion Energy takes place in the sun.
